Prepared for Hill climbing and sprinting the Peugeot 205 can be a very competitive car, with a 2 litre 16v engine it can be devastatingly fast. This car has been the culmination of many years of experience and time. Virtually every aspect of this car has been modified to provide a performance advantage and to show case the capabilities of Tolman Motorsport, from Fabrication to Transmission and Engine building, to bespoke brake and Engine component manufacture.
Chris’s Passion for rallying got him involved with Richard Moore from Poole in the preparation of a Peugeot 205 GTi GRP as a rally car and latterly an MG Metro 6R4. Although Chris was involved with the preparation of both cars, the on event support and logistical organisation were prime examples of the service and professionalism offered by Tolman Motorsport.
The Talbot Sunbeam Lotus was Rally bread Special and the first of the "Hot Hatches". Chris's first car was a Talbot Sunbeam, Fully restored from the ground up and prepared for Tarmac Rallying. Sadly this was only a 1600cc Ti version, but in appearance it shared the looks of the works Rally cars. This relationship with Talbot competition cars lead to the involvement with many of the works cars, some of which Chris was lucky enough to have competed in.
The RALT RT33 Formula 3 was a championship winning car in it's hey day, a formula set up to run Out-of-date F3 cars in a British Championship was the goal. John Burt commissioned Chris to build and set up the chassis from a pile of accumulated parts. Two years of hard competition saw John achieve some impressive results against very strong competition in considerably newer cars.
Prepared from a standard road car, this was developed for the Stock Hatch formula. As the name suggests the car is virtually standard, with the exception of safety equipment and suspension. Meticulous attention to detail combined with a lifeing programme on vulnerable parts netted a 4th overall at our first attempt. The car was commissioned by Alan Blencowe; This was his entry into motor racing and two years later Alan competed in the British Touring Car Championship. During the season a second Peugeot, Driven by Darren Blumson was added to Tolman Motorsport's Stable. Darren Finished 5th, going on to win the overall championship in 2005.
